Look at this from the turtle's perspective for a minute... How would you feel if this big 10-story-tall giant monster picked you up and put you in a box with no furniture and not even a blanket to crawl under when you got scared? Especially if the only way you knew to be safe out in the wild was to find someplace to hide, box up real tight, be real quiet, and wait for danger to pass. This turtle NEEDS to hide. It's what they do.

Hey buddy,

Don't get frustrated that your turtle doesn't seem to be appreciative and happy to play. Give hima few weeks to get comfortable. My little Matilda still breaks for her hide-hole when she sees me....and I treat her as good as my sweetheart! She will come out to eat, get warm then someone goes back in her hole but she's staying out more and more now.
