Hi,

My leopard "Shelly" is 14lbs and going on 6 years old. She's healthy, active, eating and on a regular routine.

Today when I was soaking her I noticed a portion on her right beek is Chipped? Broken? Worn? I don't know? I also don't know how long it's been like this.

The only thing in her cage that can wear anything is her terracotta food dish. Anyone have any ideas what this could be caused from and will it heal?

The tip of the beak is actually overgrown and should be trimmed back. The part which broke off on the side was also excessive growth.

If you have a good reptile vet near you, have him/her trim the beak for you.. If not, you can use toenail clippers to nip of about 1/8" or a bit more of the front part of the beak and try to get it to taper in to both sides.

Thanks for the insight. It did look like the beak was starting to overgrow but it was even and I didn't think anything of it until a part broke off.

I'll start searching in my area for a vet that is familiar with tortoises.
