Here's some more pictures of Dale (Cherryhead) and his setup that we have for him. I have a heat light for day and a heat light for night. Since reading this forum I've turned off the light that's suppose to add Vitamin D. Is this O.K.? Can anybody tell me should I buy something that mists him every hour or so or not?

He looks like you have him set up pretty good. He needs (IMHO) a night light and a UVB basking light...I don't know any that give off Vit D...I only have 2 lights on most of my animals...

What you have now is very small space for Dale Candy. They aren't known to be baskers [ like desert-type species ] since they are from closer to the forest/savanna brush habitat in Brazil.. so turn the hide 90 degrees and move it as far away from the light as you can.

She will be more comfortable in a place that feels more secure.. so put a "sight-barrier" on the outside of that aquarium that is tall enough that she can't see out of.

Virtually all of a redfoot tortoises Vit. D needs are derived from their diet.. so they don't utilize the UVB. Mine are under the lights waiting for me to feed them in the morning.. and then off to their bedroom they go.

Dale looks like she was well taken care of [ from the farm - natural everything ] so you want to get in the habit of spraying her 'til she drips a couple of times a day. Get that ambient humidity up as high as possible. Remember - different 'world/hemisphere' than most of those found here on TFO.

You can find a model of how mine are set-up on the Enclosure pages of Redfoots.com
