I have heard that I should have a cuddle bone in my leopard tortoise tank. My tortoise is about a year old. Is this true and are they talking about a cuddle bone you buy for a bird? Thanks

yes its the kind you usually find in bird cages. Just make sure you remove the hard backing so it doesn't damage the turtle when it is ingested.

I had one in my leopard enclosure and it never touched it. It ended up getting soggy from all the humidity and I threw it out.

I believe as long as there's enough calcium in its diet it won't need a cuttle bone. I use calcium/D3 powder every other day or so.

None of my guys would eat them either. Worth a shot though to get some extra calcium.

It couldn't hurt to try. They will either love it, or won't even sniff at it.

.... and your tortoise might alternate between ignoring the cuttle bone and chowing down on it. The "hard backing" referred to above is part of the cuttle bone and is also calcium. It will not hurt your tortoise and doesn't need to be removed.
