So according to Petsmart, Russian tortoises are communal. Also, according to petsmart per their set up, a Russian is fine in a 10 gallon tank with a companion. I'm telling you, I almost left with them both, but look what they're asking for them!!IMAG3413.jpg

All that info comes from the head office and is spouted by young clerks who haven't got a clue. Even if you took them a pile of care sheets it probably wouldn't make a dent in their brain.

Yikes. I think my Russian tortoise was more active than my Sulcata

You need to call or go talk to the manager and let them know what the deal is. If they get enough push-back from customers, they will push back on the corporate offices, and hopefully a change will be made if enough attention is brought to this issue.

I've already complained and attempted to give them care sheets. The employees can't do anything because they do as they're told and are only allotted so much space. I'm 100% pushing for an animal free pet store. Either do it correctly, or just stop. I go there on the weekends to play with and walk the foster dogs up for adoption. Always kills me to see the animals being sold. I'm still sending in complaints, but I'm not yet being heard.

I worked at a petstore a few years ago. The employees really have no control, and most don't care. Heartbreaking.

At my local Petco I've seen up to six Russians in a 10 gallon tank. The person in the reptile department insists they are captive bred. Whatever unfortunately the Family owned local pet store isn't any better. And they are only slightly more open to suggestions.
