Hello,

I am new to the forms but have been a Sulcata mommy since August. My baby Tilikim has always had a light colored shell. My Mom, Sister, Cousin, Aunt, and Brother in law have all also purchased Sulcatas from the same breeder, and they all seem to have a darker color. Now Tilly has had issues last month where I had to take him to the vet for bone deficiency issues, in which he is currently receiving injections for, and has not the best health but I have been committed to taking good care of him under my vets recommendation. Not to mention Tilly now has a sibling that also has a darker shell. Is a light colored shell a sign of his health, or is this normal?

Could the other tortoise is getting more sun. What brand/type UVB light are you using?

There’s a natural range of coloration in tortoises as with humans and I am not unduly concerned.

What does bother me is that these two are cohabiting. Pairs rarely work work.

They aren’t social, they don’t need or want friends. Bullying is common regardless of gender and relationshi and it starts with mental rather than physical. Sooner or later they will need to be separated and kept apart permanently. It’s bettr to do it before the bullying starts.
