I recommend this Alllllllllll the time, but few people actually do it. So far everyone who does it says its great. Give it a few weeks and come back with updates about the conditions, your tortoises behavior and growth, the maintenance and your electricity usage. If everyone kept babies this way, there would be a lot fewer problems and a lot healthier tortoises.

This is amazing. How long did this take you? I would love to do one of these. My baby is in an aquarium but I'd say within the next year I'll have to start constructing.

My husband did this in 3 nights after work. I would never have been able to build it but he is really handy and he built it with scraps we had around the house. (were doing a house remodel so we had plenty of wood lying around) I would have loved for the entire front to have been plexiglass but it was really expensive for the size sheet we needed (100.00). I have a friend that works at a glass store and was able to get us a few scrap sheets of polycarbonate. Good luck with your build, we are loving ours!

Its not huge because my indoor space is limited but he will be getting an outdoor enclosure when he's big enough. It is 30in high, 19in deep, and 5 ft long.

There isnt really a blue print, my husband made it out of scrap lumber we had at our house. He basically made a box and flipped it on its side. We made it to fit on top of a dresser because that the only spot we had for it right now. Then we added the polycarbonate to the front. I would have done the entire front plexiglass if I would have had the money to do so. It was a little pricey for as big a piece as I needed.

I just wanted to add a few pictures now that we have some more plants in Frogs enclosure! The closed chamber is AWESOME!!! The 1st few days I was struggling to get the humidity right even though the temperatures got better right away. Now that I have REALLY wet the substrate on the underneath layers the humidity is perfect now too! So happy with our enclosure! I think our little guys is much happier now too!

That one is called ponytail palm. As best I could tell, it is safe for them (I hope) but he doesnt seem to eat it anyways. I mostly put it in there to help with humidity.

Good luck! I would like to add more to mine too but I had a tough time finding that. Its hard and takes forever to grow your own stuff and the store bought stuff always has fertilizers and pesticides so we cant use them. If you come up with any other types that are easy to come by...please share!

Okay, thanks. I'm looking for some grasses to create hides with, this one seems like it would do the job.
