On the Tortoise trust forum I saw that they referenced wild clemetis as an eatable plant yet give no latin name. Perhaps our British members can clear up my question, are they speaking of Clemetis sp?
The only info i can get is the latin name is CLEMATIS VITALBA also known as old mans beard or travellers joy.... i have it down as toxic to mammals... sorry its not much help...
Larry, Clematis is in the order of Ranunculales or Buttercup Family . Which are toxic
Here is what wikapedia states about the toxicity: The entire genus contains essential oils and compounds which are extremely irritating to the skin and mucous membranes. The compounds in clematis cause internal bleeding of the digestive tract if ingested in large amounts. The plants are essentially toxic.
Here is the site with lots of pics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clematis
