On the Tortoise trust forum I saw that they referenced wild clemetis as an eatable plant yet give no latin name. Perhaps our British members can clear up my question, are they speaking of Clemetis sp?

Thank you. I was wondering because our clemetis in the yard are never eaten by either rabbits or deer.

Larry, Clematis is in the order of Ranunculales or Buttercup Family . Which are toxic

Here is what wikapedia states about the toxicity: The entire genus contains essential oils and compounds which are extremely irritating to the skin and mucous membranes. The compounds in clematis cause internal bleeding of the digestive tract if ingested in large amounts. The plants are essentially toxic.
Here is the site with lots of pics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clematis
