Here is Asha .... We have decided to try and offer a different way of doing things with MBD and Carapacial Collapse. In NO WAY are we advocating for a 'No Vet' mentality but we do want to show how easy it is to help these torts suffering this fate that will kill them without intervention. IMG_7621.jpeg
She is so precious to us and we are willing to do whatever we have to do to save her life.IMG_7622.jpeg
We are making a video series of the process and our thoughts along the way. This is just an introductory post to get everyone up to speed about what it is we are doing.
Her shell is so soft that when she breath's you can see the whole shell move, including the bottom. This is a clear case of "...If we don't do something she's going to die."
We are very curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this, and yes we know we're not vets. But you wouldn't have your vet build your shed ... would you? We do not agree with the way it is being done by vets who are not necessarily savvy in building techniques or the forces involved with any building project. She will also need some serious physical therapy for the way her legs have been put in an unusual awkward position ... walking on her shins. It reminds me of @wellington telling us about using Hydrotherapy for our Mater (Sulcata with leg issues). She is not out of the woods by any means but at least this is a start to a happy life free from pain ... Hopefully.
Please share your thoughts and as I edit the videos I will post them here for all to dissect. There needs to be a change and this may just be a start to that.

Hopefully this arrangement will help the poor tortoise get some relief and healing. At least it shouldn't have as much trouble drawing a breath now.

Good luck with it!

I think it's great you're thinking out of the box to try and help her. Hopefully this helps.
I thought I had, what about something to get her off of her plastron. Some how suspending her so no to little weight is on her shell. Maybe a small skate board by each leg? Or maybe something like a hemorrhoid pillow attached to her plastron. She would still be on her plastron some but on something soft. Just a couple ideas that came to me.
Good luck, keep up the great job you guys do!

Yeah, I imagine that in the current position walking position the plastron is getting some wear and tear. Also worried about the skin on the legs.

People that let this happen should be, well can't say it here.
This isn't just lack of correct info. You have to be brain dead or a monster animal abuser if you think this is what a tortoise is supposed to look like. I will not give monsters like this an excuse or pass. They need to pay for the abuse with their lives!!!

I like what you are trying to do. I also think you might be able to treat this like braces and pull / lift over time.

I also think it makes sense to spread the pull force over more contact locations. This could be done by 3D printing a frame to go over the carapace (and would also be something that might weigh less).

Not only will water therapy help strengthen her legs...if she's like me, that's the only time I am pain free...pain management, maybe pharmaceutically...would also help her recovery...constant pain wears at ya after a while...good going with her, I know it's hard...

What caused this exactly?

Not giving a proper diet that covers calcium and vitamins, etc which can also be supplemented and improper or no uvb. I also think, depending on the case and size of tortoise to it's age and walking ability, lack of proper space.
No reason for this to happen.

Horrible. You would think that by accident they wouldn’t get it this wrong

I was thinking to weld the plastron piece in a cross shape to distribute the pressure front to back as well as side to side.

This is the point of this, to spur a different way to think. Thank You My Friend for thinking outside the box.
