When I was younger I had a soft shell who had a prolapse penis, (did not know it at the time) The vet had me give him 2 shots after he was released from the office.

Is it an antibiotic shots? or something specifically for the shell rot?

Ok again I have to ask did your vet say why antibiotics were prescribed? is it a preventive issue or does your vet think your tortoise may have a infection of some type?

Sorry for all the questions

No she said it was for the shell rot. She is an exotic veterinarian who also has some box turtles. Are antibiotics not how you treat shell rot?

I don't mind questions :)

I am not a vet but from what I understand a anti fungal cream is usually the best way to treat it, that is why I was asking did your vet see or suspect something else. But like I said I am not vet so I can't say 100%
You might want to PM exoticdr and get a second opinion from him and see what he says.

No, usually shell rot is treated topically. You can clean the area well by scrubbing with a soft bristle brush, dry it then paint on some athlete's foot cream.

Because your vet had the turtle right there in her hands, she might have seen something that you don't know about, like maybe a bit of a respiratory infection.

Oh! She was pushing and feeling his neck and some stuff came out of his nose, but she said it was probably from stress. Maybe to be on the safe side she gave the antibiotics? she didn't say anything about cream... Just this blue wash

I went to the vet yesterday and he gave me betadine solution to dab onto the rotted area. Not sure if it meant it was a mild case it not.

Hmm seems
Like I am going to have to call the office to
Find out exactly :) she implied it was for the rot... Didn't seem at all convened about the bit
Of clear liquid that came out of this nose. That was the first time it has happened. Thank everyone :)

A lot of times doctors of all types forget that the average person doesn't have the same knowledge as them. I would call and get clarification. She might have seen something your not aware of and she forgot to mention.

I have a call into the dr :) the secretary said according to the notes it's for the shell

So the dr said its a preventative to keep it from spreading. She thinks it wil go away with the antiseptic wash along with the antibiotics

Why didn't you title this thread "Advise needed regarding injections" so we know what it's about?

I can't imagine having to give my tortoise shots.. :( We have to give our dog shots and just distract her with food when we do it. I don't know if that will work for tortoises.

Just because the subject was brought up (not implying anything wrong or anything), if after you post something and can no longer change it yourself, simply PM a Mod and ask us to fix it for you. Not every little grammar or spelling error, but bigger mistakes like poorly thought out comments or title changes for example.
