I've always used screen buried to keep them from digging out.
I stapled it to the wooden walls.
Now I'm using bricks for the walls and want to know how to secure the edges.
What has everyone else done in this situation?

I used wire too when I first started building enclosures. I've since learned that if they can't see daylight under the fence, they don't try to dig out. I haven't used wire for a very long time and have had not escapes through digging under the fence.

When I first used 2x12 boards stacked horizontally to make my enclosures I buried the first one 6" down in the dirt.

Made me feel more secure.

But with multiple hides and lots of plant cover my box turtles have not dug along the barrier at all.

I still have much to learn about box turtles , but it seems a varied terrain , multiple hide spots , a rolling terrain, leaf litter / grass clipping to dig under a several places with loose dirt ( like dumping a bag of organic top soil ) and they use what is convenient for them to escape the heat of the day.

I tamped the dirt down solid all around the enclosure at first and this might have helped too.

Thanks y'all. My turtle likes to dig deep so I'm going to bury the wire just to feel a little better. I will put bricks along the inside edge flush with the ground to help.
