Best substrate?

Hi, my Hermann tort has a real problem with top soil as a substrateas it gets into his eyes, is there any other substrate anyone can suggest? Thanks

I like coconut coir i dont ever have a problem with it doesnt stice to there face and only a tiny bit if they bury themselves in the dirt

I also like coco coir best. For larger messier torts i put coco husk fiber on top of the coir.

Yes i nust use coconut coir but you can do.the fiber ontop to.help like jodie said

I'm a huge fan of coir!
Organic topsoil, potting soil, orchid/fir bar are all awesome choices too :D

Ah man, asking what's the best substrate on a tortoise forum, is like asking who the best super hero is in a comic book store. That's just asking for trouble. I like coco coir, top soil mix personally.
