A tortoise i am possibly adopting is a hermann male age 4. He grew very quickly when he was younger and is very large for his age. His beak has now grown and covers half of his face which has started chipping off.

Does anyone know what to do or if this is an issue?

We would be better able to help you if we could see pictures. But, yes, if a beak is too long, it will chip off. And sometimes it chips too short, causing pain to the tortoise. So you really need to address the issue before it chips.

I will be able to take pictures when I see him next. How should they tackle this so he's not in any pain?
