Can Russians eat artichoke flowers, like the part humans eat? If so, what part can they eat? Do we need to chop it up really small or cook it or something to make it less tough?

Artichokes are a thistle and thus a good food. I’m not sure how tasty a Russian would find them but worth a try.

I’m sure they can eat the whole plant. You don’t need to cook it or chop it up tiny. Your Russian has very strong jaws and he can manage much more than you might think.

If it were me, I’d feed a whole leaf. That way the tortoise can put their foot on it for leverage and rip parts off. Don’t worry if it takes him a long time to get through it; he literally has nothing else to do.

Keep an eye on him, of course. It’s got to be full of very tough fiber and I don’t think I’d want my tortoise gulping down the entire leaf at once or anything.

Let us know if he eats it! I’ve never tried to feed it.
