Are there zoos or rescues that take tortoises?

I'm in Florida with my mom's tortoise odie who is in need of a home (I put him in the adoption forums) but I hate to use something like Craigs List because who knows what people know about exotic pets... Is there a rescue around Tampa? Or will zoos take them? Or is there another avenue I can take? I am new to the tortoise world. thank you!

Zoos don't want them. They have a regular list of accredited people they buy from.

There are many turtle and tortoise rescues that will take your tortoise.

You could try a petting zoo maybe. But I am sure their are plenty of sanctuaries in the area, do you know the species?

Why not keep him yourself? They make great pets.
