I was looking around the 'net for a easy to explain/read definition of "brumation," and I found this picture. Wow! Can you imagine how big this turtle must have been with all its skin,fat, muscle and shell still intact?

Hey, I think one of those would fit in your pond... barely. Then you'd just have to find a source of giant squid to feed it. Hmmmm.....

So it had gills cause brumating underwater you would need them or a big snorkel!
