A heating question.

I am working on expanding Mojo's enclosure to a 8'x3,x3' at minimum. Still trying to convince the wife to let me have 4' deep without putting me 6' deep🥴. So my question is, do I stick with the CHE or would a couple of 220 watt heat panels be better? Or would the deep heat emitter work in this situation? The CHE works great heating up his enclosure now but he's not far away from them when on top of his tunnel. I have made adjustments to protect him from direct heat when up there. I just would like to know if there's a benefit to switch to panels.

A couple heat panels spaced throughout are better for ambient heat than CHE

Adults shouldn't have che,s they are fine for closed chamber sized ages. Adults should have the pig blankets or RHP.
Btw, your wife most likely won't measure and we (woman) know that men always think a smaller measurement is really bigger than what it is, so go for the 4. Less waste too.

Is he considered an adult at 2 years? He is only 5.5 inches

No, not really. Should still be in a closed chamber until about 3 years, give or take. Usually until they are big enough to live outside.

It gets too cold here for full time living outside.
That's when you build an insulated heated shed. An adult needs either a dedicated room at adult size or a shed. Keeping an adult in to small of an enclosure can affect it's health.

That is the plan but I have a little time redfoots are not exactly the fastest growing tortoises. He is getting a tort shed mansion. But I need to put it on a trailer because rent my house. And when we move I don't want to pay someone to move his shed.

That's what I should have done, but it still wouldn't be able to get it out of the small yard I had. I had a shed built and about year or so later we moved. But well worth it. Much more property and much bigger shed now.

Wellington is right.
I live in Tennessee moved from Florida. We really didnt need them in Florida, but in Tennessee we get snow.
My tortoise is about 50-60lbs and I have one from Zoomed, it's the habitat heater pad. I also have a UVB for her (she won't leave her hutch when it's snowing 🤣) and an above heater.Enjoying tne last days of sun..lol1000015332.jpg

I have a redfoot tortoise. It doesn't grow as fast as your tortoise.

If anyone has any personal experience with using heat panels in their enclosure, that would be most helpful. I am aware adult tortoises need more space. And when Mojo gets that big I will be moving him into a shed or enclosed trailer that has been upgraded to accommodate an adult red foot tortoise.

I use a single 220w RHP in my little tort's 8*4 enclosure. It's more than enough for nighttime heat, especially since we keep ambient room over 70F.

Thank you. Do you like that brand ? Those are the one's I was looking at. Also does it heat the substrate up at all?
I really do like it. The 1st unit was damaged by shipping carrier, but Wilbanks quickly sent a replacement. Pro Heat brand was my original choice... they have 2-4 week lead times, however.

The RHP does heat substrate (and driftwood) underneath. It feels slightly warmer than other portions of the enclosure.
