50 Gallon Rubbermaid Containers

Hi All,

It's been a while since my last post here. I've been looking to upgrade Yuri's enclosure to a standard 50 Gallon Tub that everyone keeps recommending. I've noted that some folks mentioned these tubs are inexpensive. Amazon, Walmart and other major retailers have these bins at around $90 each if not more.

Am I missing something? Where are some people getting these tubs for $15 as I've read and heard?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

The Home Depot has a 54 gallon grey tote container with a black lid for $19. It's Rubbermaid brand. Many people can find them at lowes and Walmart but I can't. My local stores don't carry any that big unfortunately.

I have not seen them for 15 more like 25-35 but at Walmart, home depot, etc. they are just the plastic storage tubs with lids. The 50 gallon is harder to find in my area too. But the 45 gallon isnt. You can also get two smaller ones and join them together and cut a hole out to go through, or I put a tunnel between my two.

Thanks for the responses so far. Can anyone provide a direct link to the product that you're referring to?

Also, are there any pre-built enclosures that would be about 50 inches by 30 inches? I'm not crafty and can't make my own. Cosmetics are somewhat important to keep the wife happy...

Ok. Thanks for the link. The surface area size of that item is about the same as to what I have now. I'm looking to upgrade to dimensions of 50 inches by 30 inches. This is about 20 by 30.

Then in that case I would just build the enclosure. Or if your not to handy, buy a used book shelf and covert it. I build my own enclosures to my specific needs.

I actually have 2 bookcases that may fit that build....their backs are made of the cheap soft paper backboard. I'm guessing replace that somehow with a piece of plywood? I'm not handy with woodworking lol.

I recommend getting the exact measurements of the back. Then go to your locale hardware store and buy the piece of plywood you want and have them cut it to those measurements for free.

I will have to try that with my bookshelf next. It's quite a shame that the market does not have readily available options of pre-built houses for tortoises that are larger in size.

Thanks for the help.

There are two reptile / turtle specific tub brands, Waterland Tubs and Vision Products. Both sell tubs in several sizes. For example, Waterland has 55 x 24 x 9 and 55 x 24 x 12 tubs. Vision has 52 x 36 x 11 and 68 x 35 x 14 tubs. They have larger sizes as well. Waterland tubs are black and have a small divider ramp inside. Vision tubs are white or gray and have no built in ramps.

I wish I would've found those vision tubs when I was looking for an upgrade.
