It’s super hot here in the Houston area and can get quite dry too. I’m trying to improve the soil in the turtle garden. I would like to know what plants are safe and edible for them. So far we have hibiscus, liriope, Chinese fringe flower, and purple fountain grass. I’m starting a compost heap in the pen.
The pen is made of cinder blocks on one end with the wall of the garage and an 8’ wooden fence for the rest. It’s about 14’ long by 7’ wide. The mulch is Cypress.

That's a nice area for box turtles. I'm curious - what is he eating?

I would add leaf litter. Leaf litter is easier than the cypress mulch for them to bury in. Leave the mulch, but add leaf litter maybe in one spot over the mulch. Ornamental strawberries is a good plant for box turtles.

My guess is soybeans?

Nice home area.....folks will always tell you to "do this or that" but you've got this....you've got a good mix of plantings and you're conscious of the SUN!

So, what is he eating???

Inquiring minds want to know! LOL
