Due to unexpected bills I guess my little tortoise is going to have to wait to I can bring the little thing home, one question i am still undecided about a vavarium or a tortoise table? Live in the north of the uk, I have central heating and my house is always home? What do u think?

I'd recommend a tortoise table. I think they're by far the more suitable home for Hermann's, especially in the UK. I can maintain temperatures and humidity no problem, they offer plenty of space and (though I paid a fair bit for mine to make sure I got everything right), they can be made from overturned furniture very cheaply - it's certainly what I'd do next time!

Sweet baby, love the pic, I too have a new baby hermanns, I have to keep mine in a viv because I have two cats one of the loves to sit by his viv and taps on the glass till my tort comes out then the cat talks to him, the other cat is more of an outdoors cat and he tracks my tort, also I have a jack russel and if one of the cats managed to get my tort on the floor idpnt know what he would do, I tried introducing them but all the dog wanted to do was flick the tort over.. Needless to say I won't do that again, also my neighbour had a tort and her dog got to it and killed it....so I think although tables are best, I'm going to convert a small table into a tort table for when I'm sitting in the lounge, I have to keep my baby safe so viv it is for me....it's all down to environment, time, and supervision if you have other animals around I think... Do you guys agree or am I totally off track here...

I would recommend a tort table. That way you'll be able to get more use out of it longer. I used a shelf and layed it on it's side. Take out the extra shelfs in the middle of it and put something on the bottom.

Personally for a baby I'd use the viv. They need more humidity when their babies or else they'll start pyramiding.
If I could go back in time I'd get a viv for my baby greeks instead of building a tort table. It's way to hard to keep the humidity up in the table.

Pyramiding is not a disease it is a condition in which the shell grows bumpy. High humidity levels help curb or stop it and in a viv it is easier to maintain humidity.

I remember reading that improper diet and insufficient UVB light also contribute to pyramiding, along with low humidity. All and all if you follow the advice on turtle forum, you'll never have a problem with pyramiding.
