    Keeping them outdoors year round?

I don't have a Greek tortoise (yet), but I really like the look of the Golden Greeks. Seems like there is very little care information on the internet, and even less about housing these guys outdoors. Specifically, I am curious if Golden Greeks can be housed outdoors year-round in central...

    Duke really likes clover..

... or whatever this clover-type weed is. I put it at the entrance of his man cave, where he was holed up, and he came out within minutes to eat it. It's nice to be able to find food for him in the back yard. Much easier than getting food for my snakes. Thanks, Ed

    Big step in our relationship...

Duke finally ate out of my hand. He's still a bit shy even after several weeks, but today he gobbled up a dandelion flower/stem out of my hand. Fun stuff!

    Nutsedge grass?

I hate the damn stuff since it is an unstoppable force in my yard, but it would make me feel better if I could feed it to my Hermann's tortoise. :D Anyone feed it to their torts? Thanks, Ed

    Feeding regimen??

Ok, I'm more of snake guy at this point, so I'm trying to learn more and more about my Hermann's tortoise. Feeding my snakes is pretty simple and easy, just give them a rabbit pinkie or a quail every 7 to 12 days. I've read plenty on *what* to feed my Hermann's, and so far I've seen him eat...

Muhammad Ali Autograph display for female Hermann's+cash

Figured I'd give this a shot, since I now have a large tortoise pen and only one (male) tortoise. :) I'm looking for a female Hermann's tortoise that is at or near an age where it can safely breed. I have a really nice and large shadow box display that contains: - Autographed trunks...

    Hello from North Carolina!

I've already posted a few times, but never properly introduced myself. My name is Ed, and I'm from central North Carolina. I'm married and have three sons, ages 12, 15 and almost 18. I've always loved turtles and tortoises, but I also love snakes, have three of them. I finally took the...

    Duke, my new tortoise buddy!

Finally got him on Thursday. He is a bit more shy than I expected, so I've left him alone for the most part. Took a few minutes to get some pictures today, though. Thanks for looking, Ed I built an outside pen for him, posted about it at...

    Hermann's tortoise pen construction

Ok, so my wife has wanted me to build a nice retaining wall since we got married (over 19 years ago.) So I recently told her I'd do it on one condition. :) I'm almost done with the wall and drainage, then I'll put in some sort of hibernaculum. After that, the landscaping. I've got...

    Pampas grass okay?

Hello, Constructing my tortoise pen this weekend, and I bought one pampas grass plant to put in it. But I figured I should ask before doing so, just in case. Any issues with Hermann's torts and pampas grass? :) Should be getting my new (and first) tortoise next week some time...

    Phayrei in North Carolina?

Hello, Just joined the forum since I would love to get a tortoise. I've always been a "snake guy", but I love turtles/torts as well. Anyway, still trying to figure out what the best choice would be for me, and from what I've read having an Asian Black Mountain Tortoise would be the...
