    'Softish shell after shell rot'

One of our redfoot's had a case of shell-rot a couple of months ago. We treated with the usual athletes foot cream and anti-fungal wash - most of the rot cleaned up in a couple of weeks - this is all normal. However - the 'wells' in which her two back legs are - towards the front of her shell...

"Spastic" back leg in baby yellowfoot?

We have two baby yellowfoots; have had them for just under a year. Both eat like hogs, explore everything in sight -and generally seem healthy and happy. Except, starting a couple of weeks ago - one of them seems to have developed a sporadic 'spastic' back leg. Rather more specifically - we...

    Pics - The 'little four'

Well - we have now officially stopped acquiring tortoises (honest). But not before another couple slipped through the gate. Our two previous babies are here for comparison: the little two are Amazonian Yellowfoots (per Sam of Florida Iguana)...

    Baby (amazon) yellowfoot -temperature

Hey there; we now have a couple of (very) baby Amazonian yellowfoots. 25g and 35g. Now the winter is coming. Generally I keep the overnight temperatures at 70; using under ground cables this year. I am wondering if the yellowfoots could use it a little warmer - maybe 75? David

    Sex / Race opinions?

I figured I would try to narrow down my 0.0.7 tagline a little - I'm sure the smallest is too small - but any opinions on the Race/Gender of these four would be appreciated: Candidate 1 (Andromeda)...

    Vomiting redfoot - panic schedule?

Ok, I've read the posts and think I know the basics on tortoise vomiting - I would just apprecaite some 'older, cooler and more detached' heads helping me with the reasoning here .... One of my redfoots (that was behaving fine yesterday) threw up this morning. It was basically the contents...

Any 'special' treatment for very tiny redfoots?

Ok, we went to the pet store today and acquired two new redfoots (quite proud of my self - managed to resist a troop of 3 sub-adult peruvians). Anyhow - these are numbers 6&7 and the others are all healthy and growing - so I'm pretty comfortable on 'redfoots in general' (follow turtle tarry...

    Reverse Pyramiding????

Ok, I have five redfoot and was recently able to give them an outdoor enclosure (in Florida). It has shade for day time (I bring them in at night), plenty of sun (cf: Florida), huge amounts of humidity (I did mention Florida - right?), three bathing pools and I have planted the area (180sq ft)...

    Plumbago ok for Redfoots?

First, apologies for putting a 'food' question in the wrong thread - but given redfoots seem very different from the grassland tortoises - i didn't want bad information. Anyhow - plumbago - is it ok for tortoises? good for tortoises? I have swiped all the purple shower and hyacinth flowers...

    Belated howdy ....

Figured that as I have been picking your brains for the last few weeks I should have the decency to say hello. We live in (too) sunny Florida - we have four kids and four tortoises. The original tortoise (Pheidippides) is here :-...

Rescued 'ebay' redfoots, Wk2 - progress & questions

Well, We have now had the two 'ebay rescues' for a week. The good news is that both of them are now comfortable with us (which I measure by the fact that they come out of their shells when we pick them up). They have both lost the dry wheezy noise. They both romp all over the yard (when we...

RI vs "too dry wheeze" - or are they the same?

Ok, You all now have me worried - so here is my question: How can you tell the difference between a respiratory infection and the little "whistle" they get when it is too dry? Or are they actually the same thing. Both my original two redfoots got 'whistly' in January - so scanning...

    By the Book - Beware

Today we rescued to sorry looking redfoots. Both have pyramidding; one severe and lots of dry-rings on their shell, cracked dry skin and 'wheezes'. Very sadly; we rescued them from a caring lady in a million+ dollar mansion. The problem: this lady was doing things 'by the book'. She even gave...

Redfoot inch/sq ft & other outdoor pen questions

I have searched the forums and although I can see lots of 'artistic' pen design ideas (which I will use eventually) - I am looking for some very practicle 'engineering' style advice. In a couple of months (DV) we'll be moving into a house (South Florida - humid/hot) and want to build a...

    Kamikazee (flipping) redfoots

Ok, I have two apparantly healthy redfoots but with a significant problem - they keep flipping. Not once or twice a day - but once every ten to fifteen minutes. This is not a log-hide issue or water dish issue. They both literally walk up to the side of their cage, climb up with their front...
