It's interesting to me to see how many people have been bit by their torts. I caught Oscar trying to bite my thumb the other day, little jerk I didn't even have food. That picture does show a pretty satisfied looking tort though, "hahaha thought you were gonna keep MY squash, well I showed you."
As a pilot I know exactly what you are talking about. My goal is as high a humidity as I can get which seams to be 90% @ 99.2 degrees Ferenheight although I would prefer higher temps it is difficult to get that high a humidity with higher temps. You are correct that as the humidity increases...
So I have been watching my little Oscar, he is so funny. The other day I turned on his lights and it woke him up, he came walking out of his hide yawning (like mouth fully open and eyes closed). Today I had him outside and I had indirectly run water from the hose over him then while he was...
So sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did everything imaginable for him and you sound like a very good owner I hope you have better luck in the future.
Tom will probably be by with his excellent caresheet for Sulcatas. As far as the sleeping thing, I'm not sure how normal it is but Oscar does the same thing.
Oscar got like that for a while, but we were feeding him spinach which I have since been told blocks their absorbtion of calcium. Have stopped giving him spinach and he has gotten much better, also give Calcium/ vitamin D supplement powder 3 times a week and make sure to give time outside in the...
Oscar the Sulcata had 3 hibiscus leaves and "grazed" a little (I put him in the pot where I'm growing his sulcata mix.) But mostly liked the Hibiscus leaves.
Oscar had the same problem, we took him to a herp vet and the perscribed an antibiotic that I had to inject (poor Oscar) and some Neopolygram eyedrops that I put in the affected eye every 12 hours for 10 days. He got all better.
He is a hatchling, I have had him since July 2. Yes I deffenitely plan on putting some hides into the new home. Right now I'm using some pellets, but have been reading a lot about humidity on here and am looking to get something that will hold humidity better as it is pretty dry in there. Flat...
So today when I went to buy bedding for Oscar I bought him a new enclosure. He will have lots more room to roam. He's going from a 20" x 12" to a 48" x 12" Will attach pictures of both.
Amazon reptiles in Montclair California is selling a terarrium. measurements are 48" x 12" x 13", I bought one they're $29.99 and they include 4 ceramic light sockets. They are used and as is, but in pretty good condition.
