Thankyou!
I'll have a read of that now :)
I've just attached a picture of Herbie taken 4 weeks ago just as our Summer ended here in UK :) it shows her pre hibernation nicely
Hi there, have recently researched this for my Herbie... lots of scratching, frustration, inability to pass faeces, going off their food ... have you had her scanned at the vets?
Thankyou so much everyone for your detailed responses, I love this forum and really apprecaite your time
Thanks Terry re Brumating too, this is my 1st hibernation for Herbie. Since the weekend I've had a themometer in the allocated fridge but it's ocillating between -5 and 0 degrees at the...
Hi All
Have just been for a routine check up with my tort vet before I hibernate Herbie for the first time. This last 3 months we've indentified her as a girl - she's about 7 years old now. He scanned her and said she was producing eggs (a little young but said it was because she was in...
Thankyou! Just been to the pre hibernation party and apparently everyone does it - feeling a bit better now but any advice if anyone's done it would be welcome!
Hi All
Just a question re fridge hibernation. Am going to my annual pre hibernation check up tomorrow with our reptile vet who's an advocate of fridge hibernation as the temps fluctuate up and down here in the UK over the winter. Does anyone else do it and any tips for us? Am scared to death...
Ah thanks everyone I will try these suggestions! I know she's just being inquisitive but the I've caught her trying to swallow a few of the smaller ones - I will bury them down and try not to worry!
Hi everyone
I know we all live all over the world but this is more of a gereric question around garden behaviour.. Herbie has an outdoor run which she enjoys but spends 90% of her time trying to eat small/ medium even large stones! I worry that she will choke! She loves climbing and digging but...
Hi there, I think it sounds like she's just getting used to her new surroundings< Herbie was just the same! She will settle after a while, she did the same thing when we got her. Torts just hate change! Hermann's though are quite sociable little things so I find Herbie likes to be around us in...
Sometimes when Herbie's growing I make sure she has regular warm baths and then when she's out I get a cotton wool pad and rub a little olive oil into her shell and in to the scutes which makes the dry bits disappear and she also seems to love having her shell rubbed!
Ah thanks everyone. You're right Tyrs4u she absolutely hated every second of that picture but was spoilt afterwards!! Am thrilled with the news! Will have re think her name now but might just leave it because I think she knows it ;-)
Hi there
Please can you tell me whether Herbie is male or female? He/she is 7 years old - any advice is greatly appreciated!
:tort:[hr]
Also if he/she's Western or Eastern would be really helpful if anyone knows?
Many thanks!
Thankyou!
Yes have noticed he does like to gnaw at big stones and has a smooth beak because he does it a lot! I do bathe him every other day and will keep him well hydrated. He is only 5/6 years old so I think I will keep him in a more controlled area outside where there are fewer larger...
Hi all,
Herbie and I live in the UK and am getting him ready for the garden because it's starting to warm up over here. Thing is, whenever he goes out the ALWAYS tries to eat stones, big , small, doesn't matter he tries to swallow. Am worried sick and watch him constantly picking the stones...
