So my boxie laid an egg, she hasn't seen a male since at least last spring if she ever saw one. Could it still be fertile? I know they can store sperm pretty long but they can also lay eggs without breeding jut like chickens right?
My box turtle is showing signs of wanting to hibernate. He is refusing to eat and spending all his time hiding under the leaves but he doesn't try to bury himself or dig into the ground at all. shouldn't he be going deeper than just walking under the leaves?
Background- I found him at a busy...
My Russian has an outdoor enclosure. It's in the mid 50's as a low overnight with days high at 80-85. I thought I should bring him in at night as it might be too cold, but when I went out to get him he is completely dug under his log. I would have to dig out the log to get him. So how low can he...
My Russian tort is in his outdoor enclosure and it has started to storm. Lots of rain. It's 72 going to 70. Do I need to bring him in? It means going out in the rain and digging him up but I will if I need to.
Thanks
Little background : I purchased this russian from petsmart Aug. 2011. I have not been keeping him in he best conditions due to misinformation from another site. I have upgraded his living quarters but want to see how his overall health appears at this time. How old he might be, are petsmart's...
Before I found this forum, my RT was living on mostly sand and hardly got water because the website I followed said water would give him an RI (he'd get water from his food)and sand was best. He also had no outdoor. Now he has these after I found this forum.
I still need to cover some of the...
When I first bought my tortoise a year ago I read that the best substrate was play sand mixed with bed-a-beast. So that's what I did. Now I read Tom's beginner mistakes and see no sand. Is the mix ok and just plain sand bad or no sand at all and I should change it? It's also an exoterra tank...
WHat temp does it need to be minimum outside for my Russian? I am over in NJ and just started putting him outside, but I am reading he needs a basking spot of 90-100? There is no way it's getting that warm in there. Do I have to add a lamp over an outside enclosure because that would be...
Ok, so you might remember my other post about finding a boxie that I can't rerelease. I called the rescue and left a couple messages, but no call back yet. So in the interim I split my outdoor Russian enclosure into two(see pics). I have offered spring mix, worms, strawberries, pill bugs and he...
HI :D
I've actually had the Russian for almost a year but I am new to the site and wish I had found it sooner. We just built our first outdoor enclosure (I posted pics in the enclosure section so if you want to see if I am doing it the right way for a Russian I would appreciate it :) ) His name...
This is my finished enclosure for my Russian tortoise. Does it look ok? I have a water dish which is a paint tray. The plants are hostas. Substrate is sphagnum moss and organic soil. I live in NJ and he is outside during the day and in at night. T
I found a box turtle a major road with no real woods around, just other roads and houses. I know you should relocate them because of their homing instinct, but I couldn't leave him there either. Oddly enough my best friend found one the next day on another major road also surrounded by houses...
