I'm confused about bindweed. I always thought it was safe as it says so on the Tortoise Table website and have been feeding flowers and leaves now and again over the past year, but I have just read now on this forum that it can be toxic?? What it the correct answer?
Can anyone help identify these plants. The first one (large plant in centre of photo green leaves with white on) has sprouted up in my hermann's enclosure where I have planted tortoise friendly seed mixes, so I'm hoping it is safe but I have not been able to identify it - it has prickly edges...
I have a 9cm 5 year old Hermann's. Last year I had him in a temporary outdoor enclosure as we still had some work to be done in his area of the garden so this year I need to make something more permanant. My husband and I disagree on the size it should be I would like it to be as big as...
My main worry is rats but I'm thinking I'll get some sort of net/grill to cover enclosure and leave him out maybe he'll learn to go into his house on his own!!
I could set him up something for inside and send him off to my nephew's house, but prefer not to disturb him too much and he would go crazy trying to get out of a 'box' rather than being free to roam his enclosure.
We are going away for a week next month and I'm not sure what to do about Tutu. He stays in an outdoor enclosure (we're on italian riviera so hermann's natural habitat) with a hutch for bedtime, each morning I open his door for him to come out and at nighttime I put him in the hutch and close...
Bouaboua - he shouldn't be able to escape - three sides of enclosure have walls going into the ground (part of house and fence) so no chance of digging there, the only part that worried me as a digging possibility was under the black board at the opposite end to the house, but this weekend I...
Thanks for your reply Yvonne. Our house/land is an odd shape this is actually at the back of our house (you need to go up some steps to get there), it's a bit out of the way but I put him here as we have a dog (and the 2 yr old in the pic), but at the top of the steps to get here we have a gate...
So I introduced myself on this forum last week, now it's time to introduce Tutu, 4 yr old 8.5cm Hermann. (BTW first pic was in his temporary home, he now has a big outdoor enclosure - see 2nd pic).
Have one question - how does his shell look? Does he look as though he is pyramiding (I've only...
How does this look for a 8.5cm hermanns? It's still temporary, my husband isn't keen on us having a tortoise so I did it all myself, we will build something more permanent in the winter, still the same place but something prettier and hopefully even bigger.
Hi,
I'm new here (see introductions) I've only had 4 yr old Tutu for just over a month and as he was given to us unexpectedly I'm still learning how to make him happy.
His accommodation is still temporary for the moment and although he has an outdoor enclosure has slept inside at night until...
Hi everyone,
I've had 4 year old Tutu (named by my 2 yr old!!) the Hermann's for just over a month now and I'm slowly learning how to make the best life for him.
Tutu was given to us by friends who have had and bred tortoises for over 20 years, but I'm slowly realising that they don't really...
