Just wait until you receive it, and after a few days a name will come to you to fit its personality. If you pick one now , you may change your mine.

I agree - wait and see what his/her personality and features are.
Will it be a baby or are you adopting an older tort?
If it's a baby then it will be a few years before you can tell if it's male or female - so think of unisex names.
This is the caresheet you need which will help you make sure you provide everything he needs
- it's better for the tort if you have everything set up before he arrives.
Ask as many questions as you like.
Pet stores know little about tort care and will often sell unsuitable and unsafe equipment just for the profit, but members here can make sure you don't waste money on anything that could be harmful to the tort and get the correct heating and lighting etc. from the start.

I've always liked giving my animals names that fit their home range. A name that might be a human name in that particular country.
That said. I have around 2 dozen pets and only 2 have names. The others are are numbers and then there's THE BIG PINK FISH.

I named my little Russian Sapphire because he's a pretty little rock most of the time ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿข or maybe I should have named him monkey man or Houdini because he's like that too sometimes ๐Ÿ˜ it's usually if I'm not looking though. I just find him in a predicament I have to save him from ๐Ÿ˜‰

I would do a search of "most common tortoise names" and then NOT pick anything on the list.

When I got it my Russian was named - wait for it - Boris. I swear its the most popular Russian Tortoise name (along with Natasha) other than the Mutant Ninja names, Tortellini, and Sheldon.

Welcome to the forum! This is the best place to do research prior and after getting a tortoise.

I like to use a human name that was common around the year of the pets birth and fits their personality. (I have to admit that I never named my giant African snails or isopods since I can't tell them apart ๐Ÿ˜…).

The Russian Tortoise species is actually endemic to Central Asia from the Caspian Sea south through Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, and east across Kazakhstan to Xinjiang, China (despite their name). So yeah there is also a wide variety of names to pick from.

I picked Sapphire because my Russian is a little walking beautiful rock. I also read they are called a Blue Russian. However everyone thinks he's a girl because of his name and then say to me ...๐Ÿ˜why did you name him a girl's name? I for the life of me can't figure out what gender a rock is to this day though ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜Š

Did anyone remember Vlad?
Yes. I was prompted to remember Vlad on CBS๐Ÿ˜œ morning news this morning so technically I have. Otherwise I haven't a clue ๐Ÿ—๏ธ ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™ƒ
