Hello! I created this account for me and my hubby, as we keep few tortoises and also other reptiles and animals :). We are from Slovenia, it's in Europe, here.
We have three greek tortoises, two were our first tortoises about four years ago. And we got one about few days ago, with really problematic shell and long beak. It seems that shell had some kind of parasites that partially ate her shell. She was in pet store for long time, and according to them, she had parasites on shell about three years ago, that they treated it with some ointment, but shell stayed the same. We will take her to veterinarian who is know how to treat tortoises, but it's really far away so we can't go earlier than next week.

We also have four geochelone sulcatas. One came to us yesterday. We went to get her in Italy. We drove 6 hours there and then another 7 hours back, i'm sure it was quiet stressful for her.
Nala is 55 cm long and have about 31 kg. She is eating fine, but after good bath and scrub we noticed her shell is pretty rubbed off on some places, we also clean it with iodine just in case and put some antibiotic ointment on it. This morning we noticed that on some spots there seems to be small air bubbles under layer of ointment. Does this indicates that there is something wrong with her ?
We also have male Romeo that is about 50 cm and have 18 kg, he is 12 years old according to papers. it's a bit low compared to female, but he gained about 5 kg in last year that we have him.
Then we have two smaller ones, Julia and Ula. Thanks to this forum we started soaking them last summer and success is evident especially in small one who grew quiet a bit since than, and her new growth is flat compared to old one.
All (except the two we didn't have then) were checked last year at vet and have their poop examined, he said they have internal parasites, but that they are very common among tortoises and all got medicine and that was all, after that especially smallest sulcata seem to grow quiet a bit and Romeo gained a lot of weight.
We plan to take all of them to vet again along with greek one with bad shell.

Also during summer they all have outside enclosure with house and some shade to get from sun and we wet them at least once a day. During warmer days, but when nights are still to cold we just get them outside during day. During winter they are inside, all sulcatas except small one and greeks are in open boxes, small sulcata live in terrarium with two basiliscus.

I put some photos in my albums, and i would really appreciate any feedback i can get.

Thank you. Yes it's a drive, we made about 120o km there and back home. Adult females aren't often for sale, especially if you are looking for one with smooth shell without pyramids. And they are often for sale in pars here.
They seem to look after all tortoises form where we get her, but bigger ones had scratched shells. They probably import bigger ones and then they bred them, they have a lot of small tortoises, some that just hatched, and all small ones were kept in moist environment, which some that keep sulcatas here doesn't know.

Here are two photos form there on first are males and on second are females.

Grandpa Turtle 144 i don't know what is wrong, are there any settings i need to change ?

Interesting that the word for
tortoise/turtle in Slovenia is "Zelva" just like in Czech? Yet in Slovakia its "korytnacka". Or are you Czech living in Slovenia?

It was very interesting for me to see Sulcata being kept in a country like your's. They look good! Welcome to the forum and I hope you keep us posted on the way you keep them there and how they are set up. I have one large Sulcata, I always say I am not crazy enough to have more then one...welcome again...:)
BTW, your big one is much smoother than mine, good job!

I'm Slovenian, yes this is quiet interesting. Our word is želva (two people and we didn't have any other idea), yet Croatian word is kornjača.

We'll see how it goes now that we have two big ones. Anyway we plan to move in our own house with small stable in two or three years. And then we plan to make inside room with exit outside. Depends if they can still be together, now they are and there weren't any incidents, but our boy is really nice, end except going where he isn't supposed to go was the only problem in almost two years.
But right now they have inside boxes, and outside enclosure in which they stay from late may to beginning of september, day and night. So cold that they can't be outside even for hour is from december to march, other months if it's sunny and warm they are outside for an hour or two, usually not only in enclosure, if someone is watching them :)
We will also get big ones microchiped probably, and debating to have them insured, it's common practice with pet horses here.
I saw your posts about Bob, his shed is so cool. And he can climb stairs ?

Our boy too like to climb small stairs, he's not big enough to climb proper stairs, but we don't even have those outside the house.
We'll see how much trouble will female make, but up until now she seems pretty timid. Just strolling around and take a bite of grass now and then.
Yes it's pretty nice here, really green and a lot of forests :).
Right now we have three cold days (ice man), but next week it will be warm enough to let the tortoises out day and night :)

Hi!
My name is Eva and I, as well, am from Slovenia. I have two tortoises and I am new to this forum. I just saw your post and was so happy that I am not the only one who loves tortoises that much from Slovenia. We are kinda rare here hah.
I have a question for you. Where did you buy your tortoises? I am kinda having a struggle, because the only reliable thing (that I saw) is slo-exo fair, but I would really like to find some cool breeders and expand my family :). I don't mind going to italy or austria or croatia as long as it is really reliable to get a healthy animal.
Thank you for your time!
-E
