Hi fellow tort owners thought I'd start a thread on Russian growth rate anyone got any information on it my Russian has gained 8 grams in 14 days and 5 mm in length any opinions if it's to fast or to slow
As with all species, it's varies. I've owned my male Russian for 3 years and he hasn't grown that much. with this species, I base it off of a calculation based on their length to see how much weight they shouldn't be under. Female Russians get bigger than the male. I'll be interested to see what others say! I've seen females around 9-10 inches.
They all grow at different rates depending on a wide range of variables. I have 20 young ones all eating the same food and living in the same enclosures. The faster growers are three times the size of the slower growers. This is totally normal.
Just feed your tortoise a good diet, keep it hydrated and at the proper temps, well exercised and meet its UV needs and don't worry about the growth rate. Worry about the health, not the growth rate.
