Really great! I thought about doing the same thing using a kids swimming pool. The big ones are only like $15 at Walmart. I think I would cut out the bottom and just use the outside as a ring around some soil. I may still do that.
I like this maybe instead of the kiddie pool, even though it would've been a little bigger. Liked it more for the protected lid, just cut out the parts of the shell and used a rivet gun to fasten the mesh screen on there.
With cutting the bottom out of the pool o would be afraid my Russian would dig out.
I can leave the lid on while I'm at work or at night when it's warm enough. Have the girlfriend take it off or I'll take it off when I get home. This way he can still get sunlight and be protected.
I was a little more worried about him climbing out so I mounded the dirt towards the middle and made the edges shallow. Also am really worried the someone might try and steal him at some point
Love it! I recently bought a turtle sand box to put my little guys in until we can make something else. This way they can be out and I don't have to hover over them, lol. Love the idea of a screen. I was a little disappointed with my purchase. I remember my sand box as a child being much bigger. I think they have cut the size in half
That is really nice, now I have to check out sand boxes. But not what I was expecting, I visualized a wood sand box with the bench on each end with the 2 boards holding a striped canvas awning above. My mind was stuck in a time before plastic was used for everything. I was in a time when everything was made of wood, metal or rubber. Can you tell, my kids never had or needed a sand box.
Prolly would've been nicer to use a wooden one, that's what I had when I was a kid.
With the house being in the back, I dug up around the outside edge and made it shallower so he had no leverage to grasp onto anything. It's a smooth plastic so he has no grip... I'm gonna test it out for a week or two and see where his attempts are.
Buy that is a good idea and will keep it in mind and possibly make the move.
