Hello!
I’ve had my Russian for about 3 years now. I haven’t trimmed his beak since, but lately I’ve seen his beak is a bit overgrown. Do I need to take him to a vet for a trim, or will I be able to do it at home by giving him whole leafs?
He’s already fed on an unglazed terra cotta plant...
I’ve had my Russian for about 3 years now. We started him off in coco coir, which he seemed to enjoy. He loved digging in it, but it was too messy and got into his food/water bowls constantly.
We ended up switching it out for orchid bark. it’s been much better, cleaner, and looks a lot nicer...
Anyone else see Kamp Kenan is starting to sell kits for baby torts? Its not as bad as some pet store ones, but still doesn't seem beneficial, especially since he puts the UVB light in top of a screen lid.

Suclata tortoise in SoCal. Owner is calling it a calcate tort. Doesn't look too bad to me, but obviously she isnt getting good enough care with her current owner.

Hopefully someone on here that knows more about them can help these poor torts out.
I saw this tort on my local Craigslist. I try to refer these people to this site as well as send links to the tort's care sheet. But I'm having trouble identifying this one:https://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/for/6207695659.html
Looks like a sulcata? But $300 looks pretty steep for it.
My Russian tort, Spunky, has a bump on the left side of his neck. Its firm and small, doesn't feel like its filled with fluids. Its the same color as his neck too. I can't take a picture now as he is asleep, but I'll hopefully get one tomorrow. I don't think its an ear abscess, since it really...
My Russian tort has always loved to dig when he goes to sleep. However, I’ve noticed that when he digs in his hide he tries to dig straight through it, not at an angle or towards the bottom. So he ends up just scratching the back of his hide (made of plastic) instead of actually digging. He...
Sorry for all the questions, I am a worry wart :(
I added more coco coir to my tort's table yesterday, and in doing so I accidentally added too much water to the substrate. It is too wet, and I am worried he will develop shell rot. So my question is would he be able to develop shell rot in the...
Does changing your torts substrate cause them to be stressed? I've been wanting to change my Russian's substrate to something other than coco coir, but he just got used to his new home with us. So I wouldn't want him to stop eating or become stressed again. Thanks!
Once a tort had been dewormed, can they still get them somehow? Mine was dewormed before I got it, but I'm just curious if I still have to be very careful about that.
Hey guys, when I was soaking my Russian today and looking over his shell, I noticed a reddish dot on his plastron. The odd thing to me is that it seems like a perfect small dot, about 1-2 mm wide. He is very active, basks, and is eating just like he normally would. Some of his skin is shedding...
Hey!
I've posted before, so this is a somewhat late intro. I'm Ed, and I've had my Russian Tort for about 3-4 weeks now called Spunky. We got him from a vet tech, who had him since he hatched and took pretty good care of him. He's been dewormed, no pyramiding, and eats anything we put in front...
In my free time, I like to go on Craigslist in the pets section to see if any tortoises need rescuing. Today, I saw someone with a 5 year old sulcata (at least they claim its 5 years old) who lives in a 20 gallon tank :( its also pyramiding pretty bad, as they have no water bowl and use cider or...
If anyone here is in SoCal, someone is selling their Russian tortoises on Craigslist in Orange County. Said they got them as a birthday present for their little brother, but they 'weren't the ones he wanted' and are now trying to get rid of them its a male and female being housed together...
Hello,
I wanted to know how I could combine 2-3 different Rubbermaid tubs for my Russian tortoise? Would just cutting a hole with a knife and putting them together work, or would a ramp between them work better? What could I use/do to create this ramp? I've tried looking it up but can't find...
Hello! I just got my Russian tortoise a couple of days ago. He's been pretty fine, eating and pooping and peeing almost every time I soak him and sometimes in his enclosure as well. Unfortunately, since my dad hasn't finished building his 8' by 7' table, we have to keep him in a 40 gallon tank...
