Once a tort had been dewormed, can they still get them somehow? Mine was dewormed before I got it, but I'm just curious if I still have to be very careful about that.
I've a similar question regarding worms. The pin worm or is it round worm,(?) life cycles in the soil before inhabiting a host. My question is then how long must a tortoise be off that offending soil before it can be considered, "clean, worm free" soil?
As stated. There's probably always a small, but not necessarily harmful, parasite load.
You can minimise the risk of reinfection by keeping a tort on newspaper while worming it. You then replace the newspaper with brand new, completely fresh substrate once your tort is declared clear.
Coco coir and find grade orchid bark bought new are very unlikely to contain parasites.
Torts kept outside are a bigger challenge as there is little chance of no poop from a parasite infested wild creature being deposited on your land. That said, in 47 years, I never had a parasite problem with Joe.
