I'm wondering if my Russian Tortoise can eat 'compost' worms? My husband gets these small worms from his parents garden compost piles to feed to our Long-Toed Salamanders, and we don't have to buy them, so I was hoping to be able to feed them to Willow. Anyone got some advice? Thanks, Deanna

While some Russians will indeed make a snack on a worm they may come across, that is not a norm for them. Sorry, it would have been nice to have been able to use them as a food source. Russians are as a rule pure vegetarians. ;)

Hi Deanna:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

May we know where you are?

Sorry, but Russian tortoises are vegetarians. May I suggest that you do a lot of reading and learn how to care for your Russian tortoise (Testudo horsfieldii) so that he can be assured of a long and healthy life. We have many Russian keepers here on the forum and we would be happy to help you.
