Would anyone be willing to share some advice in which store bought foods will be the best for winter? I'm from a cold climate (Pennsylvania), and will not have any weeds or flowers available. My babies vastly prefer fresh food over Mazuri.

Thank you!

Endive, escarole, dandelion leaves or cactus if your store has them. Turnip greens mustard greens. You can also grow a seed mix indoors easily. Since it is mostly weeds it grows very very well :) it's basically the only thing I can grow.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1476754088.685771.jpg
It literally started coming up 24 hours after I planted. Just trim a little off with scissors and give it to them and it just keeps growing.

I buy mostly turnip greens and dandelion greens. Sometimes endive, escarole, and spring mix.

Whole foods is where you can find a lot of the stuff normal stores don't usually carry, like dandelion greens and cactus. Also if you have ethnic stores, Mexican and Polish stores do good in my area for carrying the u usual.
The seed mixes do well too. I grow them in just coconut coir when I have a hatchling. Inside growing is much harder for large tortoises.

In addition to the above, you can further improve the quality of the greens by mixing in some soaked ZooMed Grassland tortoise chow. Start with a tiny amount at first and gradually add more.

Thank you! I agree, Whole Foods is the best place. I've been buying the dandelion greens, but I'm surprised how fast they wilt. Mine only last 2-3 days in fridge. Collard greens stay fresh much longer. I was reading about urates and giving myself anxiety over the dandelion and collard greens. Are these ok to give daily?

Also, Wellington-- thank you TONS for the pumpkin recommendation on another thread. You ROCK. My babies love it!
