He has done it a couple times before, like when i run my finger nail in between his shell plates. But i figured maby it was because it shocked him a bit. The first time he did it he was just sitting in my hands a jumped. Today i reached into his terrarium o pet his shell and every time i touched him he jumped and now i am concerned. Any thoughts?

He is simply letting you know he is displeased having his shell touched:)
It is a normal healthy defensive/offensive behavior.
What kind of tort is he?

Well, either he is a little startled or he is digging the stroking/scratching....if he does not run off, then likely he is digging it....they can feel through their shell....

Most babies do this. I think they're trying to be intimidating. Showing you how mean they can be so you'll leave them alone.
