Hi everyone
I have a eastern box turtle egg that has been in the incubator since the end of June.....yes, I know that is a long time but I was really hoping there was a little one inside. Well, I tapped it a couple times and the egg opened up and it was FULL of brownish sandy substance! It looked like sand. There was no yoke or any liquid. I have no idea what it is. I am sure someone on this wonderful forum would know. I was really shocked!! any ideas???????

After a while in the incubator the yolk of an unfertilized egg starts to dry up. If left there a long time it decomposes and eventually resembles sand.
