We have had our Greek for about a week now. The temperature is nice so he's outside with a heat lamp if he gets cold. But we're not sure what to do with him when the real cold hits. We've been given mixed advice, so now we're just confused. We would prefer keeping him outside if possible. He has a nice 7 by 4 pen. Should we get an igloo w/a heating pad?

How old and what size are we talking about? How cold does it get where you live? If an adult and you plan to keep it out than yes you need a house with the heat lamp and a pig blanket. A good idea is to get a thermometer that has a station that you put in the house so you can keep an eye on the temps. There are other heating options out there depending on how cold your area gets.

We live in Fresno, California. Not sure how old our Greek is, we just know he's a male. If we get a pig blanket do we leave room for him to step off of it in the igloo in case he gets too warm? So heating pad and UV light? What temp is best during the winter? And do we still feed him if he's not hibernating? Sorry, about all the questions but I haven't found the answers on the forum yet.

Hi DeAuna:

You need to know what type of Greek you have. Some of them hibernate and some of them don't.

Agree - and if your greek is the type that hibernates then let him be. He can hibernate naturally during winter in Fresno, albeit a short one.
