My friend is getting rid of her tortoise, and I'd like to take it, but I have no idea what breed it is. Any ideas? Screenshot_20180320-140718.jpg Screenshot_20180320-140700.jpg

I would say Greek tortoise, but it could also be a Hermanns. Really hard to tell from those pictures.

Just reminding you, species should not be mixed. This greek/hermanns can't be put with a sulcsta.

Breeds are domestically bred variations of the same species. Like a great dane and a chihuahua. Both Canis familiaris.

Different tortoises are differentiated by species. For example, Testudo Graeca and Centrochelys sulcata.

Thank you, Tom. Your explaination of the difference between "breed" and "species" clarifies the issue well.

The species is Testudo graeca (Greek tortoise), but for subspecies I would need better photos, top, bottom and head. It does appear to be a Mesopotamian tortoise (Testudo graeca terrestris) but very well may be a mix.
