Also I wanted to know if you think these are good for Fred or not

Hello!
I'm not Tom but can comment on these items:
1. Stay away from heat rocks - for tortoises and lizards. They are non-effective heat sources and some cheaper models were known for starting fires and causing burns. Just a flat slate under basking lamp works fine if you need more heat in the basking area (double-check slate's surface temperature as they can get very hot).

2. If you have a "closed chamber" (I remember you've planned to use a grow tent), then misters and humidifiers are redundant. Also, when used in a wrong way, they can cause health issues (when you mist too much, don't timely desinfect humidifier and refill water etc). Thick layer of damp substrate is sufficient for maintaining humidity.

Hard "no" on both. Hot rocks used to burn lots of reptiles before people knew not use them.

Humidifiers are fine to use to add humidity into the room, but I wouldn't have one blowing directly into a tortoise enclosure.

About the vet: If all is good, I wouldn't take the tortoise to the vet. The trip is stressful, and most vets don't know much about tortoise care and some of them do more harm than good. Maybe just take a fecal sample in and leave the tortoise at home? I'll ask my AZ tortoise friend who is the good vet in town near you.

I was going to get one of those grow tents til I saw the Smart enclosures on one of the links that you all posted. I was so excited that I had finally found the exact enclosure I wanted. Them I emailed Mark and he said that it would be to small and would h have to get a extension for it. He said because Fred will probably be our side next year and it would only be for a year. So now I'm back to square one. I liked the smart enclosures because it had everything included and it as the temp. And humidity control on It. Thank you for your advice. I guess I will be returning those things. Thanks again Alex and the Redfoot. For your advice

Thanks Tom I never thought about that. I would rather do that. I just worry so much about him. Thanks again Tom you have been very helpful. I will await your response on the Vet
