hi everyone, I live in england and I have a tortoise table and use the exotic terror uv bulb 80 watt (in the pic says 125 but I use 80) and it's around £25 - £30 I hoped someone could tell me a cheaper brand or something as they keep breaking every 2 months or so and I dont know why nothing touches it and it stays on for around 10 hours a day which I think is the time recommended to keep them on for but I'm not sure.
thanks for any help

Remember the old adage: You get what you pay for. Cheaper doesn't always equate to being a good bulb. The good UVB bulbs DO cost a lot. Don't scrimp with your tortoise's health.

Do you mount the bulb in a ceramic-base fixture? You can't use it in a regular plastic/Bakelite fixture as it gets too hot and shortens the life of the bulb. Also, mounting it at an angle shortens the life. They need to hang straight down.

thank you tbh I just need one for the next couple of weeks that's all I'm thinking I'm planning on giving him a new table which is triple in size so wernt sure whether I'm keeping the bulbs I have but if like you said the cheaper bulbs are not as good I wont bother was just checking as I'm going off pet stores telling me what bulb and I dont always agree with pet stores as they try and sell what they have, thank you Yvonne

I use solar glow bulbs for my adults, very good bulb. But be careful when transporting it as this is the most delicate bulb I’ve ever owned. The one Yvonne recommended is also good.
