Yep, when the sun is out, even in fall and winter, it's usually warm enough for tortoises/turtles to be out. Just wish the sun was out more often in winter.

Today he warmed up in front of the stove. That wood stove is 28” wide so in a little more than 6 inches he’ll be as long. It’s 55 and sunny so we’re going out. He drank almost a half gallon or 4lbs or so this morning.

Does your room humidity decrease in the winter with all the heating? Mine does, but luckily is not terribly low yet.

It does in the great room by the stove but the other heat has humidity from a humidifier. 60% or so. The other zones of the house have a lot of humidity added in winter for comfort. Nobody with dry skin over here.

My room humidity is 38% currently, it is a little more in Edwards enclosure and he has a humid hide, but it is an open topped enclousure. In my previous home, before I even had Edward, I had a humidifier but didn't find it to raise the ambien humidity very weel. But I had a cheap hydrometer and humidifier. Have you found a good humidifier?

We use a portable 'Swamp Cooler' to add Humidity, it is indeed the best 'Humidifier' there is.IMG_0090.jpeg
Yes it is a cooler but any humidifier will cool the room to some degree, even the heated ones. This way we can keep the humidity above 50% pretty easy.

Climbed out of his bed and made his way to the stove again yesterday. It is 86deg and 55-60% humidity where he sleeps. Watching TV and warming his carapace to 99deg.

Then he walked outside and his "member" is half the length of his 21" carapace. SMH...

Then after grazing, two soaks in the tub for 45min.

Humidity... Above is what you use inside of an acoustic guitar to keep humidity up so the wood stays humid and doesn't crack. I have dozens of them and 3 of them are inside of his indoor burrow and get soaked with distilled water daily as he is taking his soak. Below is the water connection for the humidifier for all zones other than the great room that is heated with wood. The setting is always all the way up in the winter and in the bedroom and office I'm getting about 55-60% humidity on the digital meter.

The humid air is distributed throughout the house via the air handler (4ton American Standard unit). HEPA filter and no funky smells. The house generally smells like new construction and no dry skin in the winter.

In the basement is a large saltwater tank with about 10g of evaporation daily so the basement feels humid and measures 65-70% humidity normally. Goes down to high 40's to mid 50's in the summer when the AC is doing its thing. Most people do not use the humidifier in the summer. I do but the setting is reduced.

My guitars (mainly the Martin acoustic ones) need to maintain humidity and not dry out because I do not keep them in cases in the studio. That was the original reason to keep humidity stable.
