Last weekend I bought a nice reptile-specific dome lamp for a couple bucks at a yard sale (you can never have too many, right? And I gotta hand it to zoomed/flukers/whoever, they have much more durable domes than the shop lights I buy at Walmart). It came with a little 40W red "night" light, so I figured I'd install it and see how Olive likes it.

Well, she's up way past her bedtime. Not crawling around in full force, but her heads poking high as if she's on constant food watch. Whoever claimed that torts can't see red light at night was dead wrong. Oh well, worth a shot :)

I've never heard of them not being able to see red light before. However I have heard that the light tints substrat and decor to look similar too food since tortoises really like red foods usually. I prefer a CHE for night time heat.
