Typical growth over first year?

I wasn't too concerned until I realized that my tortoise has doubled in size over the year I have had him/her. I have read that it is best to grow them slowly. Does this seem excessive in a year? I have tried to feed him/her a variety of greens, weeds, and occasional vegetables. Is it possible I am over feeding? Or does this seem typical for the first 15 months of his/her life?
