Tortoise sleeping a lot!

I’m new to the tortoise community. I only got my guy about 3 weeks ago. He has been sleeping s lot during the day. Like majority of the day and gets up maybe 5-8 times to eat from his food dish. Is this normal? Is he just resting and not actually sleeping?

Oh and btw he is a Russian tortoise. About 3 years old. His enclosure is 4ft by 6ft. Tha basking temp is 82-85 F and other parts of his enclosure sit around 72-77 F
