Mine has only done this once while I happen to be watching her luckily but wanted to know if being on there back can affect them or can hurt them other than not being able to drink or eat....just curious
I so disagree...(with love and respect)...I have never ever had a tortoise who could turn back over...maybe hatchlings...but not adults...my box turtles used to be able to flip back over, but I think they are too big now...anyway...in MY experience...adult tortoises can NOT flip back over...If it flips over, chances are it'll be able to right itself. If left upside down for a very long period of time, it CAN suffocate. But only if it can't right itself for a very long time. Most tortoises can end up righting themselves though, so it isn't a huge deal..
Ok wow, thanks so much for disagreeing so people know better. My russians can flip over and I had a couple box turtles that could, I guess there are many species that are unable! Glad you corrected, even if it is just your experience people still need to know that it is possible/ or even likely. I kinda think that Russians are a different kind of tortoise...they are Sulcata in a small body....BIG personalities and trouble makers...in a small shell....Ok wow, thanks so much for disagreeing so people know better.
