I took advantage of LLL Reptile's Black Friday sale and bought a thermostat. No more worrying that I'm cooking my girls! My biggest question is - which end of the enclosure should I put the probe in? The cool end or the basking end? The enclosure is 24"w × 36"l × 12"h.

The cool end. You want the temp in the coolest part of your enclosure, away from the heat sources to stay above the set point.

What species do you have? What heating equipment will the thermostat be operating from less than 12" above the tortoise?

Thanks Tom! I have 3 Mojave Desert Tortoises together in the enclosure. I have a 100 watt ceramic heater that I plan to use with the thermostat. The CHE is currently over the basking spot, about 16" above the substrate.
