One of my red foots keeps biting the other, I'm not sure why this is, could it be a territory thing or food? I was never warned or told this May be problem? I brought them together and they were kept together before in a slightly small enclosure aswell, so I can't see why they would fight over space ? Has anyone experienced this before?

If its not aggression, then it may be a male trying to subdue the female. That's what they do to get the female to be still and accept their advances.

They are both males though and he doesn't eat when the other is near to food and will hide in the corner in his shell?

I'd definitely find a way to provide separate enclosures as soon as you can. It sounds like the one hiding might be scared of the other. Stressed tortoises are more susceptible to falling ill.

They need there space . Two males will fight to the death . But you may just need to get you some females . Red foots do good with three or more torts but you will need a bigger enclosure to do this right . I have three females and have never had a problem as a set of three . But back when I had only two my big girl would pick on the smaller one . But know with three all is good .

If you add females to the mix, be prepared to quickly have ALOT of additional tortoise for which you will eventually require additional enclosure....sooooooo, if this is not your intention, I would suggest two individual enclosures/yards. While babies are cute, they eventually grow to adult tortoise that require housing :D

Mine are still tiny now and I defiantly don't have enough room for that, I don't even have room to separate them!

Hello and Welcome to the Forum ...........
You will definitely need more room as they mature for the overall health of your torts. Redfoots really are NOT that aggressive and I have yet to see one “fight to the death”….more true is the bullied one will retreat to an area (most of the time a corner, rock , bush ) and bunker down till his opponent gets bored and leaves. I have more than one male in each of my two different herds of reds for many years and yet have seen one killed from a fight.
Second …just because you have a Male and Female does not mean you will have lots of babies in the near future. I read this so many times in here …and if that is the case ..then the last 10 years of breeding RF’s myself , I must be doing something wrong. (<~being sarcastic_:rolleyes: ) I have 24 adults and lucky to get 100 babies a year….and these torts are treated like gold…trust me. RF’s are not like your bigger torts who can lay 40 or more eggs at a time. Along with the smaller clutches, just because you have pair does not mean you will have tons of babies (you may never get babies from the pair). Matter of fact …your female can and will produce eggs even without a male (again no babies as the eggs are not fertile). I really don’t want to be the “bad guy” and disagree with forum friends ….it just seems to me , if I were a first timer tort keeper and read some of the “facts stated thru out some of these threads” it would quirk some of my judgment calls……….which sorry are just not true. I take my Reds pretty serious and know them quite well. Yvonne had the best response and it sounds like one of your torts maybe trying to court …….I might add males will court, chase , subdue and mount other males as well.

Thank you very much and yes I'll get a tortoise table when they are much bigger but for now they are still tiny, I've noticed he's done it a bit since I posted but not as frequent :) ImageUploadedByTortForum1392504016.639168.jpg
