I have recently bought a yellow bellied slider terrapin and I am worried about the basking/uvb light an aquarium shop have advised to me.
It is an Exo Terra reptile uvb 200 intense ubv output 26watt bulb that claims to;
-Be suitable for reptiles with high uv requirements
-Helps prevent MBD
-Ideal for desert set-ups or taller terrariums (This bit worries me)
-Very high D3 yield index
-Increased vitamin D3 photosynthesis
-maximizes calcium absorption
-Enhanced UVB penetration distance
-Combine with natural light or reptile vision for optimal visual light output
Also on one side of the box it has ratings out of 5 , the uvb scores 5, the reptile vision scores 4, the human vision scores 4 and the heat scores 1 but the sales advisor assured me that this bulb will be an adequate basking light as well as a uvb light and will allow the basking area to reach up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit but when I touch the basking area after the light has been on for a couple of areas it does not feel warm and I was wondering if it should? when the hand is placed close to the lamp you can feel the heat.
Would this be a suitable light for my terrapin or not? as I am worried that this is the wrong light for him and will lead to him becoming ill. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
