A large closed chamber is always much more preferred, but a large tank can work until it’s bigger. How big is your tort, and could we see a picture?

I used to use all sorts of tanks. The problem is that I can't keep the correct conditions for them with an open top and the lights outside, even if I cover most of the top. I've tried it many ways over many years and it just doesn't work well. Buy or build a large closed chamber and you and your tortoise will be much better off. Like these:

I keep babies in a smaller area, moving them to larger enclosures as they get bigger.
