Ok, I think you are on to something because I have felt the same way. Tail pointed straight down = girl tucked to the side = boy. Now, I could be talking out of my rear here, but I have been watching my trio very closely. Shelly my youngest and smallest has s/he tailed tucked to the side all the time and is the bully and chases and bites my other bigger torts around. My bigger two Moe and Jay hold their tails straight down and they are mellow and enjoy each other's company.. Just my two cents..

My 10-11 month old hopeful male ALWAYS has his tail to the side when he walks. I swear I've never seen it straight, so man do I hope your right! I don't know the age of my tort but he's 3.5" long (if i measure right) and he walks sometimes with his hail down to the side and sometimes it kinda wags.

I have noticed that Penny only puts her tail down with she is about to potty. Am I the only one who sees this?

No your not the only one . Only my male will put his tail down to poop . My females tails are always down .

So my big male has been walking with his tail peeking from his anal scute, up until he poops. Then it goes back for a few hours.

My Darwin Always has it's tail up and to the side. In fact I don't think I have never seen it down???
